Privacy Policy

Bitewise ("we", "us") is a calorie, nutrition and workout tracker for iPhone. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, who it is shared with and the choices you have. Bitewise has no ads, does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and never sells your data.

Data we collect

• Account: your email address and name, and an account ID. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the email (or Apple's private relay address) and name that provider shares.
• Profile and goals: sex, birth year, height, current and target weight, activity level, nutrition goals and training preferences that you enter during setup.
• Food and fitness logs: meals, nutrition values, water, recipes you save, gym machines you scan and the workout sets you log.
• Photos: meal and gym machine photos you choose to scan. They are stored in your account so you can see them again.
• Notifications: if you allow notifications, a device push token and your time zone, so reminders arrive at the right local time.
• Usage limits: a count of AI scans per day, to keep the free service available to everyone.

We do not collect your location, contacts, health records from Apple Health, advertising identifiers or browsing history.

How we use it

Only to run the app's features: keeping your account and logs in sync, calculating your nutrition plan, estimating calories from photos, identifying gym equipment, building workout plans, showing streaks and sending the reminders you switch on. We don't use your data for advertising or profiling.

AI processing (Google Gemini)

Photo scanning and workout plans use Google's Gemini AI. Bitewise asks your permission before anything is sent, and you can turn AI features off at any time in Settings → Privacy & support.

• Sent for a meal or machine scan: the photo and any note or correction you type.
• Sent for a workout plan: your split, training days, experience level, goal, sex, age, weight and the list of equipment you scanned.
• Never sent: your name, email address or account ID.

Requests go from our server to Google, not directly from your phone. Google processes them under the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service. Depending on the service tier, Google may keep inputs for a limited time and may use them to improve its products. AI results are estimates and can be wrong.

Who we share data with

We share data only with the service providers that run Bitewise, and only what each one needs:

• Supabase (database, sign-in and photo storage, hosted in Frankfurt, Germany).
• Google (Gemini AI processing as described above; Google Sign-In if you choose it).
• Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service (delivering reminders).
• Apple (Sign in with Apple, if you choose it).

We may also disclose data if the law requires it. Workout tutorial links open YouTube in your browser or the YouTube app; YouTube's own privacy policy applies there.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account exists. Settings → Reset data clears your meals, water and workouts. Settings → Delete account permanently deletes your account, profile, logs, recipes, equipment and photos from our servers straight away, and revokes Sign in with Apple access if you used it.

Your rights

You can view and edit your data in the app, export or ask about it by email, turn off AI features and notifications, and delete your account at any time. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK or CCPA in California) you may have further rights to access, correct, port, restrict or object to processing, and to complain to your data protection authority.

Security

Data travels over encrypted connections. Database rules let each account read only its own data, and the AI key stays on our server, never in the app.

Children

Bitewise is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Health information

Bitewise gives general nutrition and fitness estimates. It is not a medical device and does not give medical advice. Talk to a doctor before changing your diet or exercise, especially if you are pregnant, unwell, under 18 or have a history of eating disorders.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell you in the app for significant changes.
